TREKKING IN NEPAL

ITINERARY E04 – ARUN VALLEY TREKThis is one of the easier trekking routes. The starting elevation is very low (1097 m., 3600 ft.) and the highest point is only 2602 m. (8538 ft.). The trek is in the east of Nepal, 700 km. (437 miles) from Kathmandu, and the start point can be reached either overland or by plane. On this trek you will learn much about Nepali culture and see much of its typical scenery. The route connects two districts, and when you trek through the lovely villages and among the terraced fields you will see many different plants, according to the season. In this area the local people you meet may be from the Rai, Tamang, Sherpa, Gurung or Brahman ethnic groups, so you will have a great opportunity to learn about different aspects of Nepali cultural life. If you want to visit a village or school everybody will welcome you. They will all be delighted to talk to you. Along the trail you will see many animals and birds, and for a few days you will be walking along the banks of the Arun river. From Salpa Pass there are incredible views of mountains and lovely green valleys which you will not forget for the rest of your life. You will also see some beautiful little lakes. There is a Hindu festival here every year. After Salpa Pass the trek leads through Rai villages and among terraced fields. In this area most people work in the fields, and you will be able to visit schools and talk to the teachers and students, who will be very eager to talk to you. They will be able to tell you more about Nepali life and culture.
