TREKKING IN NEPAL
|
ITINERARY N02 – HELAMBUThis is the nearest trek to Kathmandu. It starts from Melamchepul or Dhunche. It's the easiest route in Nepal and such a beautiful area to trek in. If you come in spring, you will see rhododendron blooms in different colours. They are really magnificent to see. They are the only tree in Nepal not to lose their leaves in winter, so they are easily recognisable. It is really beautiful to visit this region, with its many lakes and mountains, at this time of year. At the highest point of the trek, Gosaind Kund, there is a three-day-festival every year in September, when pilgrims come from afar. The festival is celebrated by both Hindus and Buddhists, and Shaman come and dance. Two yak cheese factories can also be seen on this trek. There are great views of the Gaurishankar and Lantang Himal mountains and, because this is a national park area, many animals and birds can be seen. They are all are very tame because this is a wildlife reserve. A variety of ethnic groups live here: Gurung, Sherpa, Tamang and Tibetan. Kyangjin is a very pleasant place and it is nice to spend some time here doing a day hike and climbing the peaks. On this trek you can see all Nepali life and culture.
