RAFTING/KAYAKING

Nepal offers some of the most exciting whitewater rafting and kayaking experiences in the world. The principal rivers are the Trisuli, Karnali, Seti, Sun Koshi, Kali Gandaki and Bhote Koshi, the last-named being particularly renowned as providing the steepest and most exhilirating descent.

Rivers are graded from 1 to 6, though in practice grade 6 is reserved for rapids which are regarded as impassable. If passed successfully they are downgraded. Most of the trips we offer provide the challenge of grade 5 rapids but there are easier options for families and for the less adventurous.

Each of our river trips is equally suitable for kayaking as for rafting.

The safety of our guests is our primary concern and we only use expert rafting and kayaking guides. In each case, our equipment is world-class. For example, the kayaks we supply can be Playboat, Hurricane, Crossfire, Prijon, Dagger, Eskimo etc. We basically follow the suggestions in the Lonely Planet guide book regarding the quality of equipment provided – self-baling rafts, Americas Cup life jackets, Protec helmets, wet suits, Carlisle paddles, rescue kayaks, 100 per cent waterproof barrels and dry bags, two-man tents, sleeping bags, mattresses etc.

All our river trips begin with a detailed safety briefing together with paddling instructions for beginners. Your personal equipment (life-jacket and helmet) will be checked for fit.

We strongly suggest that no jewellery should be worn. Shoes should be well-fitting, or diving booties. Spectacles should be secured by a cord and the wearing of contact lenses is inadvisable in case of contamination by river water. Clients need to bring their own sleeping bags. Otherwise, normal clothing appropriate to the season should be brought. Clients' gear which is not required during the day or which is not appropriate to be carried on the river will be transported by road. Cameras and camcorders may be brought at the client's own risk.

Grace International is a government-registered private company. One of our aims is to increase awareness of ecological issues. On no trip do we ever leave rubbish behind – we take it to the nearest store house. Moreover, at the beginning and at the end of the season, we employ extra staff in order to clean rivers and mountain trails – paper, tin cans, plastic and glass are all recycled.

Team: A leading government-recognised company established by two experts with over ten years' experience in the tourism industry; operates memorable trips in any river of Nepal providing you expert guides and kayakers trained in first aid and advanced river rescue. To interpret our varied cultures and to lead the trips with maximum fun and safety, our guides are always dynamic and friendly with our clients. The team is really sensitive to environmental and cultural preservation during trips in all the rivers of Nepal.

Food: Our chefs are adept in the preparation of both Nepalese and Continental dishes. We are very aware of the need for the highest standards of food hygiene. For example, only fresh, seasonal vegetables are used and they will be washed in iodine water.
